C.A.U.S.E. was
founded in the autumn of 2002 by the Belgian artist Gino d'Artali, after he already
organised a number of international projects such as the
"Butoh Gendai Arts Festival" ( 1990, a Japanese dance-arts
festival with over 20 Japanese Butoh dancers and artists presented in Paris, France;
Hannover and Berlin, Germany and Nijmegen, the Netherlands);
the "Dresdener Multi-Media Festival" ( 1994, with over 25
German artists presented in Nijmegen, the Netherlands);
the "FlagsNotFlags" sculptural project ( 1997, 4 Dutch
sculptors presented in open air at Nijmegen, the Netherlands);
"Cercano-Lejano/Aus der ferne nah" ( 2000-2001, a
German-Mexican exchange program involving 9 artists presented in Dresden, Germany and Cd.
Juárez, Chih., Mexico).
Followed by "FacingFaces 2001-06" a nomadic-organic international touring art and
poetry event aimed at creating awareness concerning violence towards women and children,
and "D.I.S.A. Ecuador 2006", touring art and poetry event in
Ecuador aimed at creating awareness concerning child labor."Pro
Patria <The borders of integration>", with participation of 18
international, national and immigrant artists and 4 writers/poets. It took place in
Antwerp/Belgium in February 2009.
This apart from having curated 2 galleries in the Netherlands ( 1995-1998).
Personal note: My work as a curator is not so much based on theoretical concepts, but
on what happens in our present world and society. C.A.U.S.E. is about
creating a worldwide and especially socially based dialogue between artists and
communities.
