Post war child

As a post war child
I had choices.

Certainly, my family was poor,
but I had choices.

The work as a thirteen year old
was not hard,
because I had choices.

Back then it was not too hard
to make choices,
because I knew our social system
would still provide me
with choices.

40 odd years later
I know
not all children have choices.

Let me, if ever I can be,
be their voice.
